Comments: Very beautiful spanish guitar backed my a medley of spanish vocals and interesting pipe and reed melodies. The artist performing, Alfredo Velasquez, upon being inquired about Leroy Gomez as a spanish guitar artist suggested we seek out Paco de Lucia, citing him as one of the best spanish guitarists in the world.

I have a new mission. Upon entering the Park St. subway station of Boston, the soothing sounds of a spanish guitar and wood pipes entered my ears. There's been a lot of talk around DoW involving going into the world and searching for music in the darkest corners we could find. Well, now the quest takes on all the underground musicians who play on streetcorners and subway stations just for the audience of passing ears. We have decided to hunt these artists down, listen to them perform and come home with their recorded music. From there we will database these compilations and albums and review them. This page will go through random updates, so check it out every once in a while.

FAQ for X: /usr/share/doc/xfree86-common/FAQ

Error Log: /var/log/XFree86.0.log

Wednesday, November 16, 2005

Installing x11 now. I aptituded the core x11 file, ran xinit and came
down to this error message:
(**) Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice"
(EE) xf86OpenSerial: Cannot open device /dev/input/mice
No such device.
(EE) Configured Mouse: cannot open input device
(EE) PreInit failed for input device "Configured Mouse"
(II) UnloadModule: "mouse"
(WW) No core pointer registered
No core pointer
I checked the FAQ to see what was happening with that. Here's what it
said.
It's easy enough to determine whether errors opening /dev/input/mice
are really the cause of a failing X server. As root, run the
following
command:
X -allowMouseOpenFail
Didn't do much at all. The screen went all greyish like it was on the
wrong refresh rate setting. I might have to look into my monitor's
refresh rate which will be a pain in the ass. Thing's a spray painted
800x600 max which I found on the side of the road. Doh.

I've been needing to write this log forever. I finally found it. Here's
compiling from the source.

First step is to unzip the file. One of the easiest ways to do this is
with gzip. For the rest, it's a breeze.

unzip the sourcefile.tar.gz.whatever
cd sourcefile
./configure
make
make test (optional)
make install

The ./configure scans your computer to make sure it has everything it
needs to install. It will give you a fatal error and tell you what it's
missing if you don't.

Secondlife: GG's stable again, as is SL in general, had no problems at
all today connecting, resolving, or teleporting.

Wednesday, October 26, 2005

Secondlife is so far so good right now, I managed to log in twice
without an issue and everything around me resolved in about 30 seconds.
I downloaded the update (build 54/55?) around 20:30.

Teleported to GG
Crashed after walking in
Crashed on precache
Login succesful, crashed after 3 seconds
Cleared cache
Login succesful, crashed after I started moving.
(starting to think it's GG causing these problems)

Before I forget: SHUTDOWN -h NOW; SHUTDOWN -r NOW

Setting up Lynx's bookmark system and text editor. Not too hard right
now, just Ctrl+e+e. This is so Doogie Howser. *sigh*.

Trying to get Mutt set up to read my gmail, if I could figure out where
the config file is to get it set up for SSL. I'll work on it further
tomorrow.

Secondlife: getting too many crashes on Login. After the login screen
gets through "Precaching" I die and get a crash notification. Clearing
the cache worked when I reinstalled the client. It also seems to be
having trouble contacting the user server. I clear the cache and try and
connect, when I see my avatar begin to animate it closes and gives me a
crash notification.

Chronology:
Uninstalled/downloaded fresh/installed
Cleared cache
Login worked, crashed after 1 second of being in-world
Cleared cache
Login successful after not touching anything for a while
Attempted telport, crashed
Retried Login, crashed during precache

Getting irssi-text to be my bitch:
Make sure to set /IRCNET to have furnet, and /SERVER to have the
connection info to it. Setting up timestamps is a bitch, format= /FORMAT
timestamp {timestamp %%H:%%M.%%S} (include the space after the
command!). /CHANNEL for autojoining all the channels. Connect to the
server, get the windows the way you want them everytime you connect and
/LAYOUT SAVE then /SAVE and everything's all set.

Getting the hardware clock set up properly is a lot easier. Run MAN
CLOCK to find out how and be sure to be logged in as root. Syntax: HWCLOCK --SET --DATE="10/25/05
21:30:00"
